There are a number of ways to take care of oral health, from regular brushing and flossing to gargling mouthwash.
Tongue Scraping
Another method that is said to be particularly effective on bad breath is tongue scraping. Let’s find out some of the facts behind this claim:
- Our tongues are one of the causes – but not the only one – of bad breath. Researchers disagree as to how useful tongue scraping is, although it’s generally only a short-term help.
- Tongue scrapers can include brushes, but most are inexpensive. It’s a good idea to include it in an oral hygiene routine, but if bad breath persists it’s worth seeking a medical opinion.
- Best technique involves rinsing the scraper before and after use, starting at the back of the tongue (but not too far back to avoid gagging), and making sure to cover the whole surface area of the tongue. Avoid scraping too hard, and rinse the mouth out once finished.
