Since 1st January 2014, eligible children have been able to access $1000 of child dental health benefits over a two-year period. This was temporarily reduced to $700 on 15 December 2016, but was reinstated by the Minister of Health on February 8th 2017.
The $1000 Child Dental Benefits Schedule:
- Provides dental care to eligible children aged between 2-17 years of age
- Includes dental work including fillings, extractions, root canals, examinations, x-rays, cleaning and fissure sealing.
- Does not include cosmetic or orthodontic dental care
- Cannot be used to pay for any hospital service
Criteria
To access the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, a means test is necessary. It is also required that a Family Tax Benefit Part A or other relevant Australian Government payment is received by the family of the child or children.
If the dental provider bulk claims, then you are not required to pay for the service received. However, if they do not, then you must pay the provider and then claim the costs back.
